FAQs

Answers to your questions about therapy, telehealth, and more.

What can I expect in therapy?

Therapy can look different depending on your concerns, needs, and goals. We believe in therapy tailored to the individual's or couple's specific needs. Our goal is to plan treatment collaboratively, honoring your preferences and input while offering our recommendations.

Some things we might ask you to do in therapy:

- Label and increase willingness to experience different emotions, and discuss how your emotions are impacting your life.

- Track your thoughts so you can identify thinking patterns that may not work for you.

- Reflect on your relationships and try new ways of interacting.

- Consider what direction you want your life to take and what is most important to you.

- Discuss current behaviors that are getting in your way and how to replace them with more effective behaviors.

How long does therapy take?

You and your therapist can decide together how many sessions will address your needs. Depending on their situation and concerns, some clients find relief in just a few sessions. Others need several months to work through deeper-rooted challenges. Ultimately, we will prioritize helping you find relief from suffering and live the life you want to live, no matter how long it takes.

Should I do in-person therapy, or telehealth?

The choice is yours! Some feel that face-to-face connection is important in their therapy. Others prefer video for the convenience of participating from the place of their choosing. Clients can choose the modality they want and potentially even elect for a combination of in-person and telehealth.

Is telehealth secure?

We use software that is fully HIPAA-compliant, meaning it is encrypted at the highest level possible to protect your private information from unintended or inappropriate use. We take every measure possible to protect your data and privacy with industry-standard cybersecurity. Telehealth sessions will always occur from our private offices. To maximize security of a session, we ask that you are also in a private location to minimize the risk of being overheard or interrupted.

How does walking therapy work?

Walking therapy is an alternative to traditional seated therapy. Some are uncomfortable talking about difficult topics eye-to-eye with a therapist. Walking can provide a sense of comfort and ease. Additionally, walking can help us think in new ways and improve our mood and overall health. Dr. Blandford offers walking therapy when appropriate and desired.

You may be a good fit for walking therapy if you:
- Want to get more movement into your day or become more active.
- Want to address your mental and physical health at the same time.
- See walking outdoors as an easier way for you to think through problems and talk about feelings.
- Are reasonably healthy without any major medical concerns that could be significantly impacted by walking.

Do you accept insurance?

Most health insurance policies provide at least some coverage for psychotherapy sessions. Our practice does not work in-network with any insurance company; however, many clients can be reimbursed for sessions as long as they have “out-of-network” coverage. Claim submission and reimbursement is between the client and their insurance provider. This means that clients are solely responsible for payment at the time of the session. If you inform us you would like to utilize your out-of-network benefits, we will be happy to provide instructions and documentation.

What are the risks of using insurance benefits?

In order to reimburse for services, most insurance companies require specific information about your therapy sessions. This includes a clinical diagnosis, treatment plan, and therapy approaches used. Some individuals may have concerns that a documented mental health diagnosis may limit their employment opportunities in the future. Additionally, insurance companies sometimes place strict limits on how many sessions and what type of therapy is considered reimbursable. By opting not to use insurance benefits, some people appreciate that the focus of our work is on what is truly best for them without limitations dictated by an insurance company.

What are your fees?

Our fees are subject to change and will always be disclosed formally in our informed consent form. At present, we charge $250 for intake assessments (75 min), $200 for individual sessions (50 min), and $250 for couples sessions (75 min). Groups, workshops, and retreats vary in cost based on length and duration.

What forms of payment do you accept?

We accept cash, credit/debit, and direct bank transfers through Zelle. We do not accept payment via personal check or Venmo.

What are your training and qualifications?

Dr. Blandford and Dr. Riggs both hold Ph.D. degrees in Clinical Psychology and are Licensed Psychologists in the state of Texas. Our degree involves 5-7 years of intensive clinical training across a variety of settings, populations, and treatment approaches, including evidence-based therapies (meaning approaches backed by research as effective). We use our broad range of experience to inform our practice today. In addition, we are committed to ongoing education and training to build new skills and offer comprehensive, expert care.
